Ribbon Banner
I am raving a GORGEOUS collaborative craft at Coraopolis United Methodist Church. Pastor Tracy Cox created a ribbon banner which is displayed near the altar and carried in procession. She chose a variety of ribbons, and also decorated it with small pearls to represent the many scriptural verse references. She then invited members of the congregation to each bring in a pin, button, sticker, or small item that represented that person's ministry, favorite church memory, or Bible verse. Each small item is attached to a ribbon, thereby adding to the ongoing story of the people of God in their church, in their community. Pastor Tracy talks about creating a culture where church members are "embraced by story" - long-time parishioners tell younger members the stories represented by their pin or button; she often refers to the items on the ribbon banner during the children's moment in worship; and children make up stories about what the various items might represent! And - even better - the project is ongoing, as is our story as the people of God! What a great idea!
